Exposition with Lucas L'Hermitte at Galerie Ivana de Gavardie, curated by Arnaud Lefebvre.
Venice, 28 November 2012
Dear Arnaud,
I have an idea for the exhibition.
For about four years, when I am away from Venice for more than three days, I continue to paint my “travel diaries”, which are small paper canvases. These works start and finish with my journey.
My idea is that of painting the “Paris Travel Diary” when I am in Paris for the exhibition.
Perhaps we could have a little table on exhibition in the gallery where I could paint? In this way, at the opening people would only see the diary being worked on, which will only finish at the end of my Paris trip. For the rest of the exhibition you could have the finished work in the gallery.
In the same way, my father wrote a travel diary when he travelled (which he did very rarely and only in his latter years after he had retired).
I have his notebooks with me which also include a trip to Paris we made together with my mum in 1992, when Peccolo introduced us.
What do you think about me bringing my dad’s original notebook containing his Paris diary to the exhibition?
If in the meantime I send you a copy, do you think you could translate it into French for the exhibition?
Sincerely yours,
Maria
