Maria Morganti. Quadri 16 x 18 cm

Exhibition Description
Exhibition conceived for the spaces of the Arnoud Lefebvre Gallery of Paris on view from 14 May to 7 June 2003.

"16 x 18 cm, 50 x 60 cm, 90 x 110 cm, 160 x 180 cm.
These are the size of the four spaces which lately I’m confronted with.
In this exhibition I only show the small ones, 16 x 18 cm.
They are lumps of colour.
I always begin with the red; I prepare the canvas with the red. Then I paint a green or a purple layer on the top of another layer, then another one on the top of the other, until I reach thirty, fourty layers. Sometimes the red desappers, other times a trace of it remains.
Every day a layer beats my time. The time of doing.
Unicity and seriality.
I work simultaneously on four or five paintings.
In them there is a deep and a horizontal space.
One space goes through the canvass in depth, revealing all the phases of the work and ending with the cristallisation of the last action. The other one passes from one canvas to the other, making one feel the thought which moves horizontally as if it was a succession of words..."
