Introduction

TOUCHING ANOTHER SUBSTANCE

THE ENCOUNTER AND CORRELATION WITH OTHER MATERIALS, METHODS, SYSTEMS AND TECHNIQUES

“Today I did an interesting experiment. I covered a pane of glass with a layer of bitumen. I drew a pair of lines with a needle and was able to make a photographic copy. The product looks like an engraving.”
(From Paul Klee’s diary, 1 September 1902)

Sometimes it is necessary to leave one’s substance and try using another.

Conjunctions can arise from an adherence to another substance, another technique and another experience. When my interior system converges with an exterior system that has similarities with what I do, a correlation is created that leads to a short circuit.
