DECIDING ONE'S PROPORTIONS
The physical world as a symbol of the spiritual one
From Anaïs Nin’s diary, September 1944
I think that I think of the book not in terms of narration but in terms of size, consistency, colour, weight and dimensions…
From John Cheever’s diary (1960s)
In order to have direct experience of the world you can’t help but start with yourself, with your own measurements, from the physical perceptions filtered by your own body.
The surrounding space – the geography – ingrains impressions, signs and traces on this body-support.
It is our own body that determines our own territory, that establishes our parameters, that specifies our formats and determines the quantity of substance needed.
