ENCOUNTERING CARMENGLORIA MORALES
It was an artist who told me that I could become an artist.
“Acting in the same way as him does not necessarily mean being his disciple. It is more a question of extending his task and creating concepts in relation to what he created.”
(From the “ABC” video interview with Gilles Deleuze)
Together with Maura Morales Bergmann and Bruna Esposito, also an ex-student of Carmengloria Morales, we thought it was important to find a way of raising more awareness about her work, producing filmed documentary footage and transcribing interviews in which we could listen to her voice. An artist interviews another artist. One artist acts as the interlocutor to help the other artist find her words. An artist invites an art critic, David Carrier, to interview another artist. I have always considered the relationship between artists as central and my relationship with her has been particularly important. With her strength, sensitivity and vision, Carmengloria helped me to come out with my thoughts, my process and my work. I think that the privilege of being an artist with a teacher is something precious and rare that should be looked after carefully.
