Excavating (fragment and stratification)
The stratigraphic test used to evaluate the behaviour of the colour for restoration purposes is what determined two works. In the first case, the piece of colour taken by the restorer to be analysed, was divided into various parts and went on to form five different micro sculpture-jewels (‘Fragment #1’, ‘Fragment #2’, ‘Fragment #3’, ‘Fragment #4’, ‘Fragment #5’, 2016). The concentrated point that symbolises the heart, the essence of the painting has been conserved and protected and has become a sort of reliquary. The second work consists of the same fragment which, after being photographed under the microscope and excessively enlarged, became a printed photo that shows the stratification of the paint. ‘Stratification’ (2015) is like an archaeologist who digs in order to discover the geology of the painting and thus the time of existence.
