The “Substitute” I described in more detail in another chapter (“Doubling”) is proposed again here to describe how a portion of my studio was turned into a sort of travelling theatre to allow the gesture that constantly leaves a trace of itself to be exhibited outside. This facility of being moved and reassembled gives me the chance to continue the act of painting whenever I have to reinstall my space elsewhere, always allowing me to transform the colours of the painting.
