This is the paper that protects the table where I work on my oil pastel paper paintings, in other words it is what lies behind the work. It is what we don’t see, and what remains. What remains is like the sedimentation of time, like a trace of the experience. It is the residue, the accumulation of substance around the creation of a painting. It is the stratification of time, of experience, the place of working and thinking through colour that has been transformed into a palette-cartoon.
