Work description and interpretation
This bowl was created to allow the “Substitute” to continue to generate colour the way it does when I am in my studio. It is a question of replicating the original so that it can always stay in my studio; compared to the original it has a completely different life. While the former never stops and always transforms the colour left over from the previous day into a new one, the latter stops cyclically. After having used it on every journey, I block it and let it dry. This means that every time I reactivate the bowl it is like starting the colour from scratch.
Series description and interpretation
Bowls
The bowl il the palet where I create my colour every day.
I never use a pure colour; I always start from what I find inside the cup. What I find is what is left over from the day before once I have painted on a canvas.
Every day I add a new colour, slowly transforming it over time.
The substance changes, is consumed and does not accumulate. It is always renewed. The cup never empties but is always alive and wet. It is like keeping a plant alive.
