Work description and interpretation
A crack cuts vertically through a wall of Casa Scatturin, Maria Morganti repairs it with an artistic sign. The owner-collector replicates the action in her other home; the artist recognizes it as an extension of her process.
This book highlights an act of appropriation as a possible form of meaning enlargement. Morganti not only accepts that the patron makes the gesture her own by replicating the work, but catalogs it, even, within her archive.
The epistolary between the artist and the collector documents the relationship of trust that enabled such a phenomenon. A jurist discusses its copyright implications. An archival curator places it in the context of Morganti's journey, in which human relationships play a central role. An insert reproduces Morganti's crack intervention on a 1:1 scale.
