Sedimentation for Testori (Diptic)

Work description and interpretation
Two paintings inspired by the words of Giovanni Testori for Gaudenzio Ferrari and Tanzio da Varallo. Gaudenzio and Tanzio’s colours become Testori and then become Morganti. I started from the word rather than the colour, as I did for my work at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia in 2008. I let myself be transported from the word towards a colour, one layer after another. I go towards pink, a pink substance: a pigment that becomes flesh. Layered paintings take up the colours described by Giovanni Testori in his book "Il gran teatro montano. Saggi su Gaudenzio Ferrari", Edizioni Medusa, Milan 2010 (first edition Feltrinelli, Milan 1965) The artwork includes also the two sheets of paper with the words by Giovanni Testori which I hunger up on the wall while I was painting the two "Sedimentazion"
Series description and interpretation
Relating
This series of pictures regards all of those paintings which sprang from an external request. They thus derive from having come into contact with the mood of someone else’s palette and of having displayed the chromatic impressions one layer on top of the other or placed alongside one of my pre-existing paintings. Usually it is a question of having related to another artist’s painting, but what also occasionally happens is that I compare myself with another language, for example a literary one, or that I am inspired by a city. This series of paintings can also spring from a form of commissioning, in other words the work I am weighing myself up against can be determined by someone else.
